What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Navigating the healthcare world can be confusing! We are often asked, “what is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?”. Registered Dietitians are licensed healthcare providers in the state of Georgia.

Dietitians complete the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in dietetics from an accredited program

  2. Supervised practice with a minimum of 1,000 hours

  3. Pass a national board exam

  4. A master’s degree

  5. Continuing education is required to maintain credentials

  6. Commit to a code of ethics

Anyone is able to call themselves a nutritionist, as there are no educational requirements for this title.

At Sprout Pediatric Nutrition, as dietitians, we work in a team with your pediatrician or other medical providers to provide evidence-based nutrition counseling and therapy for medical concerns as well as general health and wellness.
